Planning applications for 'under sails' area of The Triangle

You might have noticed that work started, then stopped, in 'under the sails area' of The Triangle. This is because the necessary planning permissions were not sought.
Lowestoft Town Council has now made an application to East Suffolk Council to 'fell to the ground' the 3 London Plane trees and to replace these with three Ornamental Pear trees.
The reason given is that "tree roots are lifting paving slabs making surface uneven and possible trip hazard, new trees will have less vigorous root growth which should prevent this issue happening again"
Please let us know what you think and, if you can, comment on the plans to either object or support. We have not got time to discuss this at our next meeting (12 December) as the deadline for commenting is Friday 9 December. The application is DC/22/4507/TCA and can be found on the East Suffolk Council website Planning page.
The 'trees' are stage 1 of a series of works in this area. The other controversial work being planned is "Stage 2: Removal of the damaged and aged Sails".
Lowestoft Town Council say that they are "inviting members of the public to share ideas for the future development and use of the area. If you have any ideas, you are welcome to submit them to us". "A consultation poster been placed for comments and closure is Thursday 15th December 2022"
Please let MEC know what you think should happen to the Sails (are they damaged?) and also email admin@lowestofttowncouncil.gov.uk by
